Argentine tennis player Francisco Cerúndolo (28th) defeated his brother Juan Manuel (139th) with a score of 6-2 and 6-3 in the round of 16 of the Argentina Open. The match, which lasted just over an hour, took place at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club and allowed Francisco to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
At the end of Wednesday's play, the Cerúndolo brothers faced off in their first ATP-level match, marking the first sibling duel since Alexander and Mischa Zverev met in Washington in 2018. Although they had previously competed in Futures and Challengers tournaments in 2017 and 2021, Francisco emerged victorious on both occasions.
Francisco Cerúndolo will face ATP ranking number 2, Alexander Zverev, in a match anticipated to be the highlight of the day and will determine the semifinalist of the tournament. Despite having faced each other only once before, with a victory for the Argentine at the 2024 Madrid Masters 1000.
In yesterday's match, Francisco managed to break his brother's serve three times, dominating the first set with a clear 6-2 and maintaining his superiority by leading 3-0 in the second set. Although Juan Manuel tried to resist, his efforts were not enough to change the final outcome, ultimately falling 6-3 in favor of Francisco.
